ICYMI: NDC Chair Suzan DelBene Joins PPI Podcast with President Will Marshall

PPI

New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) joined Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) President Will Marshall’s podcast to discuss her leadership of the Coalition, the NDC’s 100 Day Agenda, and the urgent need to pass relief for the American people.

NDC Chair DelBene spoke on the NDC’s 100 Day Agenda:

We recently released our 100 Day Agenda and put four key pillars in place that are driving our work. One is ending the pandemic and getting people back to work. One is modernizing our infrastructure, combatting climate change, and creating jobs – so important as we look to recovery. One is protecting and expanding Americans’ health care. We need to make sure we continue to build on the Affordable Care Act and make sure that everyone has quality health care in our country. And finally, restoring American global leadership. We saw the past Administration how they broke our alliances and made it very difficult with a ‘go out on your own strategy.’ It’s very important that we reengage with the international community and restore our role as a global leader. Those are our four key pillars that we’re focused on and we also have priorities as part of the relief package, so we can make sure we can get the resources out to our communities that they need.”

She also spoke on the urgent need for bipartisan support on comprehensive COVID relief:

“As we work on a package, we have seen some Republican support. But frankly, they need to come to the table to do a broad package because this is an unprecedented time. Every economist that we talk to has talked about how important it is that we have a strong response, because that leads to a stronger economic recovery. If we don’t invest in keeping our communities strong during this crisis, the economic impact will stretch on for much longer. There has been strong data to support that and we have passed packages in the past. The one thing that has shown us is that if we had done something bigger, which Democrats have been pushing for earlier, we would not be having the debates that we are having right now.

“This can be bipartisan, and I still hope that it is. As New Dems, we are going to continue to work to build strong support, because in the end, people across the country want to see governance work again. They want to see us making a difference. They are tired of the gridlock that we saw over the past four years, so this is an incredible opportunity and we’re going to work closely with the Biden Administration and the Senate to move forward and to govern.”

Within the First 100 Day Agenda, the NDC outlined key priorities to end the pandemic, create jobs, and solve the challenges of the 21st century. Read the NDC’s full 100 Day Agenda, one-pager, and statements of support. Listen to the full PPI Podcast here.
