New Dem of the Week: Rep. Patrick Murphy

Rep. Murphy receives the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the Martin County Council of Chambers of Commerce.

Why he's proud to be a New Dem:

"Given my private sector experience before coming to Congress, I understand firsthand that small businesses need certainty and stability to boost our economy and create jobs. Unfortunately, too many common-sense, pro-growth policies have gotten caught up in partisan bickering in the past few Congresses. That's why I'm so proud to be a Member of the New Dems, putting American workers and businesses first, working together with both parties to grow our economy and a brighter future for our nation."

His pragmatic, problem-solving experience:

A former small business owner and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Patrick has spent much of his professional life helping small businesses find ways to grow and thrive. His business, Coastal Environmental Services, specializes in disaster relief and cleanup efforts. In 2010, Murphy traveled to the Gulf of Mexico to assist in the cleanup following the BP spill.

Patrick's innovative policy entrepreneurship:

In Congress, Patrick has worked tirelessly to create jobs and provide small businesses with the certainty and predictability they need to succeed. His jobs plan includes many pro-growth, commonsense policies like reforming and streamlining our tax code, fixing and removing outdated, unnecessary regulation, helping American businesses export their goods and services to international markets and building a world-class infrastructure for the United States. His most recent bipartisan effort, the Regulatory Improvement Act, would create an independent body tasked with reforming outdated, unnecessary regulation.
