Politico: Dems Seize On Reports of Political Interference at HHS

...

Leaders of the centrist New Democrat Coalition emphasized yesterday that they want to vote on additional relief measures before the October recess, making it fresh on voters’ minds. The House last passed a massive coronavirus package back in May. “We’ve asked both Speaker Pelosi and Leader Hoyer to come and give us an update,” Rep. Derek Kilmer, chairman of the coalition, told reporters. “We want a deal that’s on a robust, comprehensive package. And barring that, we’d like the House to take some sort of action.”

Yet so far, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding firm on her position that Democrats should hold out for a big relief package instead of slicing-and-dicing the way the GOP wants. Pelosi echoed a similar message during a Democratic leadership meeting last night, per Sarah, with Pelosi saying the House could always come back in October if a deal is reached. (House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, however, cracked the door open a little more to the idea, saying it’s “possible” that Dems vote on additional relief measures in the coming weeks.)
