100 Days, 100 Disasters: New Dem Leadership Looks Back on the First Chaotic Months of the Trump Administration

Today, New Democrat Coalition Leadership released a list of 100 disastrous actions taken by the Trump administration over its first 100 days, and issued the following statement on the impacts of these actions on the American people and the country:

“Candidate Trump promised Americans he would lower prices on Day 1. After 100 days in office, President Trump has failed to deliver on the promises he made to the American people to lower prices, grow the economy, uphold the rule of law, and more. Instead, Trump’s actions are increasing costs for hardworking Americans and destroying the economy through chaos and uncertainty. He has endangered public health and our national security, weaponized the justice system, and subverted the foundations of our Democracy.

“Simply put, Trump is making our country weaker, not stronger, American families poorer, not more secure. His administration must reverse course before it’s too late to undo this damage.”

A Non-Exhaustive Accounting of Trump’s Chaotic First 100 Days, in no particular order

Economy

Failed to Lower Costs: Trump promised that he would “bring prices down, starting on day one,” and lower inflation. 100 days later, prices are rising as economists predict a spike in inflation due to Trump’s Trade War.
Trade War: With his universal trade war, Trump has single-handedly caused a global economic catastrophe on par with the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
First Tariffs on Canada and Mexico: In February, Trump imposed tariffs on all goods coming from Canada and Mexico, immediately sending shockwaves through the economy. He paused these tariffs for a month two days later.
More Tariffs on Canada and Mexico: In March, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on nearly all goods imported from Canada and Mexico, raising prices for American consumers buying goods from the top two U.S. trading partners. He then exempted certain goods and threatened higher tariffs on dairy and lumber, causing mass uncertainty.
Tariff Blame Game: Trump attempted to justify the trade war because of fentanyl smuggling. Then immigration. Then bringing back manufacturing to the U.S. Then to raise money to pay for tax cuts. Then trade deficits. Then individually negotiating trade deals with hundreds of countries…
Trump Liberates Americans of Savings: On “liberation day” Trump unveiled a 10% universal tax on Americans buying every good imported in the U.S., with rates up to 50% on certain countries. These taxes excluded Russia, Belarus, and North Korea.
Trump’s Auto Tax: Trump imposed a universal 25% tariff on imported automobiles, causing large auto manufacturers to pause manufacturing and lay off hundreds of U.S. workers.
Trump Caves on Tariffs: Trump paused his “liberation day” tariffs for 90 days and claimed the U.S. would negotiate hundreds of individual trade agreements during that period. The Administration has failed to finalize a single one.
Truth Social Market Manipulation: Directly before the pause that led to a stock market increase, Trump posted on Truth social that it was a “great time to buy,” raising significant questions about corruption and insider trading.
Trade War with China: Trump continues to escalate the trade war with China, raising tariffs to an unprecedented level of 145%, massively raising the price Americans pay on essential goods from a key trading partner and crushing small businesses.
Trump’s Baby Tax: The escalating trade war with China has already caused predictably devastating effects, including a 30% “baby tax” across the board on items like strollers and car seats.
Lies about Deal with China: Trump claimed some nondescript Administration officials were negotiating a deal with China, a claim that was quickly denied by Chinese officials.
Stock Market Plunges: Since Inauguration Day, Trump has overseen the 11 largest single-day declines in the stock market in history due to the chaos and uncertainty of his economic policies.
Historic Stock Market Decline: Trump has erased nearly $10 trillion in stock market value since Inauguration Day.
Sales Tax on American Families: Trump’s trade war taxes on the American people will cost the average family $4,600 in 2025 alone.
Trump Decreases Value of the U.S. Dollar: The U.S. dollar has weakened by more than 9% this year alone due to massive uncertainty causing investors and foreign nations to unload assets.
Consumer Confidence Drops to Five Year Low: Consumer confidence in the economy dropped by 7.9 percent in April, marking the lowest figure since the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump Recession Appears Inevitable: Financial institutions like JP Morgan are predicting a high likelihood of a recession in 2025 entirely caused by Trump’s economic policy.
Trumpflation: The economic conditions caused by Trump’s tariffs, including rising inflation, rising prices, and rising unemployment, are likely to create stagflation.

Health Care

Nominating RFK Jr. to Lead HHS: Conspiracy theorist, vaccine-skeptic, and medically clueless individual Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was nominated and confirmed to lead America’s public health agencies.
Dr. Oz Controls CMS: TV Doctor and failed Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz was placed in charge of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Cuts Disease Research by Billions: Trump’s NIH has purged more than $2 billion in federal research grants for hundreds of research projects based on vague accusations of connections to “gender identity” or “DEI” – or for no reason at all. This has ended critical research into life-saving care.
Withholds Critical Funding for Women and Girls: The Administration withheld $65.8 million in appropriated Title X family planning grants to reproductive healthcare organizations, jeopardizing the safety of women, families, and children.
Measles Outbreak for First Time in Decades: Conspiracy theorist RFK Jr. has failed to act decisively to respond to a deadly measles outbreak that has been fueled by anti-vaccine rhetoric. Two children have died in Texas, both unvaccinated, and nearly 1,000 cases have been reported across the country.
“Autism Registry” and Lies: RFK Jr. announced the creation of a draconian autism “registry,” grossly misrepresented the factors that contribute to autism, and insulted an entire population of individuals who make invaluable contributions to American society.
Elevated More Vaccine Skeptics: RFK Jr. hired long-discredited researcher and vaccine skeptic David Geier – who claims vaccines cause autism and practiced medicine without a license– to conduct a government study on autism.
Ends Food Safety Inspections: RFK Jr. ended many of the FDA’s food safety inspections, impacting essential items like baby formula and milk, and is threatening to end routine inspections across the board.
Fluoride Misinformation: RFK Jr. has spread misinformation about the safety of fluoride in drinking water, going so far as to direct the CDC to stop recommending it. Utah recently became the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water.

Elon Musk and DOGE

DOGE Steals Personal Information: Elon Musk and his DOGE minions seized access to the sensitive personal information of millions of Americans, including social security numbers, bank accounts, and health records.
DOGE Database to Investigate Americans: House Oversight Democrats have alleged that whistleblowers have provided evidence demonstrating DOGE is creating a master database of Americans’ private information to illegally investigate American citizens for a wide range of supposed crimes.
DOGE Costs More than it Saves: The failed DOGE project is projected to cost American taxpayers $135 billion, meaning this inefficient efficiency effort will cost more than it saves.
DOGE Lies about Savings: DOGE has used fake math to lie about savings. The DOGE website claimed to have cut $8 billion by eliminating a program, but the cut only saved $8 million. This is off by about $8 billion.
DOGE Admits to Mistakes in Firings: DOGE has had to hire back more than 24,000 employees it fired without consideration. Examples include experts from the National Nuclear Safety Administration. Several employees have been fired, then unfired, then fired again.
Fork in the Road Email: DOGE indiscriminately offered a “fork in the road” option to federal employees to voluntarily resign. Many employees who chose to resign were then asked to stay because they were essential.
DOGE Weekly Accomplishment Emails: Elon Musk tried to require every federal employee to send weekly emails outlining five things they accomplished, or risk being terminated. This was quickly phased out after it became clear this was impossible and in many cases a national security risk.
DOGE Mass Federal Firings: All told, DOGE has eliminated more than 100,000 federal workers.
Half a Million Job Losses: Some Wall Street firms have estimated the mass layoffs executed by DOGE activities could trigger 500,000 total job losses.
Social Security Admin Lies: To justify attacks on Social Security, Elon Musk claimed that there are “extreme levels of fraud” in the Social Security system and that thousands of dead people are receiving payments. This has been repeatedly proven to be a lie.
Pledge to Return to Offices while Selling off Offices: DOGE is simultaneously requiring every federal employee to return to the office while pledging to offload 25% of federally owned buildings. This is impossible.
Illegal Data Access: Across dozens of legal challenges to DOGE’s actions, Musk and his minions have failed to provide a consistent accounting of their activities, what data they have accessed, who has access to the data, and why. This is despite Musk claiming ultimate transparency.
Tesla Earnings Decline by 70%: After accomplishing nothing but wreaking havoc and chaos, Musk recently stated he would soon be stepping down from his post leading DOGE after Tesla’s earnings declined by 71% in Q1.

Immigration

Birthright Citizenship: On Day 1, Trump signed an executive order ending birthright citizenship, which is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. This was blocked by a federal court.
Mass Deportations: On Day 1, Trump signed an executive order to expand fast-track deportations without due process.
Guantanamo Bay Deportations: Trump directed DHS and ICE to transfer noncitizens from immigration detention facilities to Guantanamo bay. This stunt cost more than $40 million taxpayer dollars before it was suspended due to it being ridiculously expensive and inefficient.
Terminating Student Visas: Trump and ICE abruptly terminated the legal status of and revoked visas from more than 1,200 students nationwide, threatening them with deportation with no notice. The Administration suspended these revocations after numerous court challenges.
Alien Enemies Act: Trump secretly invoked the Alien Enemies Act – an obscure law from 1798 never before used during peacetime – to illegally detain and disappear individuals to a foreign prison in El Salvador without due process.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia Illegally Deported, Detained: ICE admittedly accidentally detained and deported Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the El Salvadorian prison. Despite all evidence showing he had no criminal record and no gang connections, as well as a Supreme Court ruling urging the Administration to rescue him, the Administration has refused to act. Abrego Garcia continues to be indefinitely detained.
Trump Caught Suggesting U.S. Sends Americans to Foreign Gulag: Trump hosted El Salvadorian dictator Nayib Bukele in the Oval Office, and was caught on a hot mic saying the Bukele should build more prisons to house “homegrown” criminals, e.g. American citizens...
…And then Confirms it: He later confirmed he would “love” to send American citizens to foreign prisons.

Rule of Law

Trump’s Failed Funding Freeze: On January 27th, Trump attempted to freeze trillions of dollars in federal grants and loans that were previously signed into law by Congress – an unconstitutional violation of Congress’ power of the purse. On February 3rd, this freeze was rescinded, but fights are continuing in court.
Election Interference EO: Trump signed an executive order that attempts to steal the power to change election rules from Congress and the states, risking the voting rights of millions of eligible voters. This order was blocked by a federal court.
Trump Purges Independent Watchdogs: Trump fired 17 Inspectors General and other independent watchdogs at agencies and offices across the federal government.
Rejecting Equal Branches of Government: Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and others have repeatedly insisted that federal judges are not permitted to control the power of the Executive Branch. These are anti-constitutional and authoritarian insinuations.
Crypto Corruption: Trump continues to openly and corruptly flaunt a cryptocurrency that his family owns, going so far as to manipulate the price by offering VIP tours to individuals who purchase the highest number of the Trump Coin.

Weaponization of the Justice System & Free Speech

Trump Unleashes Violent Criminals: Trump pardoned more than 1,500 rioters convicted of crimes during the January 6th insurrection, releasing dangerous criminals onto American streets. Several of these offenders have gone on to commit more heinous crimes.
Trump Attacks Law Firms: Trump signed executive orders attacking law firms – including Perkins Coie, Jenner & Block, WilmerHale, and Susman Godfrey – and lawyers that had brought legal challenges against him in the past
Admin Crackdown on Freedom of the Press: Trump banned the Associated Press from the White House Press pool for refusing to acknowledge the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. The Administration continues to block the AP despite an explicit court order to rescind this ban.
FBI Loyalty Test and Threats: The Department of Justice has threatened to investigate and fire thousands of FBI employees who were involved in investigating the January 6th insurrection.
Pam Bondi’s Double Standard: Attorney General Pam Bondi declared the defacing of Teslas as “domestic terrorism.” She refused to use this same language regarding a man who committed arson at Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence in an attempt to kill him and his family.
DOJ Arrests Federal Judge: The Administration publicly handcuffed and arrested Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly standing in the way of Trump’s deportation agenda. A conservative former appeals court judge stated this arrest was intended to “intimidate and threaten all judges, state and local, across the country.”

Foreign Relations

Trump Fails to End Russia-Ukraine War as Promised: Trump pledged to end Russia’s war on Ukraine “before [he] even arrive[s] at the Oval Office.” He has failed to do so.
Trump & Vance Ambush Zelenskyy in Oval Office: Trump and Vice President JD Vance berated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, parroting Kremlin talking points and disrespecting a democratic ally and Ukrainian hero.
Rubio Floats Retreat from Negotiations: After repeatedly siding with Putin and failing to negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine, Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested the Administration might just walk away from negotiations and give up.
Trump Offers a Pro-Kremlin Peace Plan: Trump issued an ultimatum to President Zelenskyy to concede sovereign Ukrainian territory to Russia and reward Putin’s aggression to reach a “peace deal.”
Trump Antagonizes Canada: Trump repeatedly threatens to make Canada the “51st State” despite broad rejections from Canada, souring an essential relationship with a close neighbor.
Dismantling of USAID: The Administration destroyed the U.S. Agency for International Development, firing more than 5,000 employees and terminating life-saving programs that were a cornerstone of U.S. soft power for more than 60 years.
Travel Drops as Tourists Fear Persecution: The number of foreign tourists arriving in the U.S. has dropped by more than 10% since last year as international visitors fear persecution due to Trump’s deportation crackdown.

National Security

Hegseth Confirmed as Defense Secretary: Trump nominated Fox News (weekend) anchor Pete Hegseth to be Defense Secretary, who was then confirmed by the Senate. A disaster in itself.
Admin Purges Experienced Defense Leadership: The Administration fired the Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. – who Trump celebrated when he was confirmed in 2020 – and five other high ranking officials who refused to conform to his ideology.
Trump, Hegseth Attempt Ban on Transgender Servicemembers: In February, Secretary Hegseth announced a total ban on transgender individuals serving in the armed forces, impacting thousands of servicemembers and damaging military readiness. This effort has been blocked by federal courts.
Signalgate Part 1: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared classified war plans related to a military strike on the Houthis in a non-secure commercial messaging app group chat that included the Atlantic’s executive editor Jeffrey Goldenberg.
Admin Attempts Signalgate Coverup: The Administration refused to admit fault for the dangerous information leak and took no action to address the situation.
Gabbard Caught Lying, Claims Amnesia: Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard claimed under oath that no classified information was shared in the Signal group chat. When the Atlantic then revealed that the chat clearly included classified information, Gabbard attempted to walk back her lie by claiming she had forgotten what was shared just two weeks before.
Signalgate Part 2: It was later revealed that Secretary Hegseth shared these same war plans in another non-secure chat with civilians without proper security clearance, including his wife and brother.
Panic Pete Fires Top Staffers: Secretary Hegseth has since purged his top advisors, including his Chief of Staff and spokesperson. Several of these fired officials have since revealed a culture of paranoia and chaos under Hegseth’s leadership, thoroughly demonstrating his overwhelming lack of fitness to lead the Department of Defense.

Education & Revisionist History

DEI Crackdown: Trump threatened to cut school’s federal funding if they engaged in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This effort was blocked by a federal court.
Dismantling the Department of Education: The Administration laid off half of the Department of Education staff on March 11th. Then, Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education entirely on March 20th. The Department is congressionally mandated, and this is unconstitutional.
Book Banning at DOD: The Department of Defense has systematically banned books – including American classics by the likes of Maya Angelou – and altered school curricula on military bases under the guise of removing “gender ideology” and DEI. But they kept “Mein Kampf.”
Pentagon Purges Diversity: The Pentagon waged an inaccurate and sloppy campaign to purge their databases of alleged DEI, which resulted in the removal of a photo of the WWII-era Enola Gay bomber and a page honoring Jackie Robinson’s service.
Attack on the Smithsonian: Trump signed an executive order attacking the Smithsonian and cutting off funding that doesn’t align with his ideology.
Attempt to Strong Arm Harvard: Trump announced a freeze on more than $2 billion in federal funds for Harvard unless the university bent to his will…
…Failure to Strong Arm Harvard: Harvard refused, and Trump then threatened to revoke the university's tax-exempt status. Harvard has since sued the administration for threatening its academic independence.
Eliminating Voice of America: The Administration gutted funding for Voice of America, which has spread American messages of freedom and democracy for more than 80 years.

Energy & Environment

Eliminating Environmental Protections: Trump’s EPA rolled back environmental regulations on coal production, putting Americans’ health at risk.
Overhaul of Endangered Species Act: Trump plans to overhaul a cornerstone of environmental protection, including repealing the definition of “harm” in the ESA, which would remove nearly all habitat protections for endangered species nationwide.
Mining on Protected Lands: Federal protected lands in Nevada and New Mexico were opened to the mining of rare minerals, reversing a Biden-era prohibition to protect the water resources of these areas, which thousands of local residents rely on.
Trump Opens Offshore Seabed for Mining: Trump signed an executive order allowing U.S. companies to begin exploring offshore deep sea mining opportunities, circumventing international law.
Commercial Fishing in Protected Ocean: Trump opened a Pacific Ocean reserve established by President George W. Bush to commercial fishing, despite the fact that the 500,000 square miles of ocean is home to several critical coral atolls and endangered sea turtles.
China Suspends Mineral Exports: China suspended all exports of rare earth minerals and other key materials for clean energy production in response to Trump’s 145% tariffs.

Miscellaneous Embarrassing Acts

Fake Tariff Math: The formula used to calculate the so-called “reciprocal tariffs” of Liberation Day did not calculate the tariff rates of our trading partners to craft a proportional response, but rather calculated the U.S. trade deficit with every tariffed country and divided it by two. In an attempt to disprove this, an Administration official shared the formula, which actually confirmed they used this fake math.
Stefanik Bait and Switch: Trump nominated Rep. Elise Stefanik to be UN Ambassador, then unceremoniously un-nominated her because he feared a loss of the House Majority.
(Cold) Trade War: Trump imposed a 10% tariff on the penguins and seals of the Heard and McDonald islands, where there are zero human inhabitants.
Sleepy Don: Trump fell asleep at the late Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome.
Greenland Rejects Vance: Vice President JD Vance travelled to Greenland after threatening to take it over. He only stayed a few hours, as no one in Greenland wanted to talk to him.
On the Links: Trump has spent nearly every weekend at one of his properties playing golf and hanging out with billionaires, a total of 40 out of 100 days.
Gold Card Debacle: Trump soft-launched his “gold card,” a $5 million dollar visa designed to allow only the wealthiest foreign individuals to purchase legal residency in the U.S.
Trump Skips Transfer for Saudis: Trump skipped the dignified transfer of fallen soldiers who died in Lithuania to go golfing with Saudi billionaires as his private resort.
Kennedy Center Coup: Trump fired the board of the John F. Kennedy Center and declared himself as Chairman. When “Hamilton” cancelled its upcoming performance due to the power grab, he claimed that he “never liked ‘Hamilton’ that much.”
Trump sells 2028 Hats: Trump started selling $50 “Trump 2028” hats, floating an unconstitutional third term.
Trump Lies about Trade Deals: In a recent TIME Magazine interview, Trump claimed to have already made 200 trade deals. The real number is zero. Also there aren’t even 200 countries.
