Congressman Tim Kennedy Becomes 100th New Democrat Coalition Member After Decisive Special Election Victory

Now at 100 members strong, New Dems remain the largest ideological caucus in the House

Washington, D.C. — Today, the New Democrat Coalition welcomed Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) as the newest Member of the Coalition following his special election victory in New York’s 26th District to replace Rep. Brian Higgins, who retired in February.

After serving in the New York State Senate for nearly 15 years, Rep. Kennedy comes to Congress as a seasoned lawmaker committed to getting things done and fighting Republican extremism. From spearheading infrastructure investments as Chair of the New York State Senate Transportation Committee and working to make life more affordable to championing public safety legislation and protecting health care access, Rep. Kennedy’s experience will make him a strong Member of Congress and the New Dem Coalition.

“New Dems are thrilled to welcome Congressman Kennedy to our ranks following his impressive special election victory in New York. His background and experience in infrastructure, transportation, public safety, and more will be critical assets as New Dems continue our work to grow the economy, lower costs, secure the border, and keep communities safe,” said New Dem Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02). “With the addition of our 100th Member, New Dems are stronger and more prepared than ever to use our voice and influence to fight against extremism and deliver common sense solutions for the American people.”

"The New Democrat Coalition shares values important to the people of Western New York; a nation where everyone has access to high quality healthcare, where we are leaving a better world for our children by fighting climate change, and where we are creating economic opportunities for all Americans, especially the middle class," said Congressman Tim Kennedy. "These have been the core beliefs I fought for in the New York State Senate, and I look forward to working with the Coalition to move beyond the partisan divide to move this agenda forward. My constituents elected me to get results, and I know that with the New Democrat Coalition, we will do exactly that. Thank you to Chair Annie Kuster for her leadership and for my colleagues for warmly welcoming me."
