New Dem Chair Statement on Continued Effort to Work with Republicans to Prevent a Government Shutdown
Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the Coalition’s continued commitment to working with responsible Republicans to prevent a government shutdown before September 30th:
“A government shutdown should not be a foregone conclusion. Let me be clear: this will go down as the most preventable government shutdown in U.S. history. The only reason for this crisis is because Speaker McCarthy is going back on his promise to the American people to fund the government in a bipartisan way. Instead of working with responsible lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to pass a bipartisan funding bill, the Speaker continues to cave to the far-right extremists in his party.
“New Dems are committed to finding common ground with responsible Republicans on a bipartisan path to keep the government open and protect our economy. We hope the Speaker will abandon his partisan approach and allow the House to take up bipartisan legislation to keep the government open before hard working Americans are harmed by a dangerous, costly, and unnecessary shutdown.”
