New Dem Immigration Task Force Co-Chairs Urge Congress to Pass Bipartisan Legislation to Protect Dreamers
Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Immigration Task Force Co-Chairs Greg Stanton (AZ-09) and Salud Carbajal (CA-24) released the following statement on the Fifth Circuit Court ruling on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the urgent need for legislative action to protect DACA recipients and reform our immigration system:
“The Fifth Circuit’s ruling puts the DACA program at risk–leaving Dreamers and their families in legal limbo, disrupting our workforce, and hurting our nation’s economic growth.
“The New Democrat Coalition has always believed we need a bipartisan path forward on immigration reform that reflects our values as a nation of immigrants and strengthens the American economy.
“That starts with giving certainty, stability and opportunity to the thousands of Dreamers who call this country home, something the majority of Americans – Democrats and Republicans - support. There’s no excuse for inaction from Congress, and the Senate should act on the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act without delay so these young people can continue contributing to our economy and communities.
“New Dems stand ready to work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to find common ground on lasting immigration reform solutions that protect Dreamers, strengthen border security, and improve our economy.”
