New Dem Leadership Blasts Speaker Johnson for Once Again Refusing to Work for the American People
Today, New Democrat Coalition Leadership released a statement after Speaker Johnson and House Republicans canceled votes and once again sent Congress home rather than vote on legislation to help working Americans.
“Just this year alone, Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans have canceled nearly 25 percent of the House’s total legislative work days. Every American should be outraged that this Republican-led Congress refuses to do its job, refuses to make life better for American families, and refuses to make our nation more secure in a dangerous world. Instead, Republicans only seem to have time to slash Medicaid, increase costs, and give more tax cuts to billionaires.
“Americans want Congress to lower the cost of living, rein in the president’s tariff taxes, and end the Iran War. Voters want Congress to build common sense guardrails around AI and hold this Administration accountable for its corruption.
“New Dems are ready to work on it all, but we can’t pass bills in an empty chamber. Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are turning off the lights, locking the doors, and walking away from the important work the American people elected them to do.
“The last two years have proved that Republicans cannot be trusted to prioritize the needs of working families over their own selfish agenda. New Dems look forward to taking back the House so that we can lower costs and make life easier for Americans.”
