New Democrat Coalition Announces New Coalition Leadership
Today the New Democrat Coalition was proud to elect a new leadership team for the 115th Congress. The Coalition voted in support of electing Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04) to succeed Rep. Ron Kind (WI-03) as Chair and elected Reps. Suzan DelBene (WA-01), Derek Kilmer (WA-06), Jared Polis (CO-02), and Terri Sewell (AL-07) to serve as Vice-Chairs. Rep. Ron Kind will serve as Chairman Emeritus of the Coalition.
“It’s been a pleasure to lead New Dems over the last four years. The New Democrat Coalition has always been full of talent, and I’m excited to see some of our newer Members take the reigns.” said Congressman Ron Kind. “Under Representative Himes' leadership, I am confident the New Dems will continue to be strong advocates for policies that grow the economy, increase innovation, and help hard-working Americans.”
“I would like to thank my fellow New Dems for the trust they have placed in me to lead this coalition and fight for them and the American people next Congress. The future will bring unimagined opportunities, innovation and change. But, as the Presidential election showed, change often leaves too many Americans behind. I’m thrilled to have the chance to lead the most forward-looking group of Members in the Congress, all of whom are dedicated to defending and supporting those who get left behind," said Congressman Jim Himes.
The list of Vice-Chairs is below:
- Rep. Suzan DelBene (WA-01)
- Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06)
- Rep. Jared Polis (CO-02)
- Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07)
The New Democrat Coalition’s Chair-elect Himes will appoint the Whip and At-Large Member to the leadership team next week.
