New Democrat Coalition Chair on GOP Nomination of Far-Right Extremist Jim Jordan for House Speaker
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the House GOP Conference’s nomination of far-right extremist and founder of the fringe House Freedom Caucus Congressman Jim Jordan:
“New Dems are wholeheartedly committed to working across the aisle to deliver commonsense results for the American people. Since he came to Congress over 15 years ago, Jim Jordan has spent his career doing exactly opposite.
“Instead of working across the aisle to get things done in Washington, he has been focused on tearing down our sacred institutions, playing politics with people’s lives, and advancing extreme policies that hurt hard-working Americans.
“Let me be clear: hyper-partisan lawmakers who stoked the chaos and division that has paralyzed the House of Representatives for months and led to the January 6th attack on our U.S. Capitol have no place serving as Speaker. That includes Jim Jordan.
“The American people want to see Democrats and Republicans work together in this crucial moment to deliver for our country and support our allies abroad. That will not happen if Jim Jordan is elected Speaker.
“New Dems remain committed to finding an agreement with responsible Republicans on a bipartisan governing coalition. The American people deserve so much better than Jim Jordan."
