New Democrat Coalition Chair Statement on Deal to Release Hostages Captured During Hamas’s October 7th Attack on Israel
Washington, D.C. — Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the deal reached to secure the release of hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7th attacks:
“The announcement of a temporary cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas and the agreement to free dozens of hostages taken by Hamas during their vicious attacks against Israel last month is an important step forward. These hostages, including several Americans, will be finally reunited with their families after enduring over a month of agonizing and heartbreaking conditions. Additionally, this deal will allow for a pause in fighting to deliver critical humanitarian aid to Gaza and protect innocent civilians. New Dems appreciate the tireless work of President Biden and Secretary Blinken to secure this deal and stand ready to support efforts that will bring peace to Israel, Gaza, the West Bank and the region.
“The Coalition welcomes this development in the ongoing conflict and our Members will continue doing everything in our power to help secure the release of all hostages, push for policies that provide assistance to our close ally and civilians in Gaza, and move toward a long-term peaceful resolution. That’s why New Dems are imploring Congressional Leaders to bring the President’s full supplemental request up for a vote in order to provide additional security and humanitarian aid in support of Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. It’s a long road ahead and the U.S. continues to stand with our allies in the region and around the world.”
