New Democrat Coalition Chairman Selected for Congressional Trade Leadership Award

Recognizing his steadfast commitment to an international trade policy that lifts standards for American workers and businesses while helping the United States sell products stamped ‘Made in the USA’ around the globe, the Washington International Trade Association (WITA) honored New Democrat Coalition Chairman Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) with the organization’s Congressional Leadership Award.

The Congressional Leadership Award is presented annually to leaders in both parties who help to facilitate an open and robust discussion of international trade policy and related issues on Capitol Hill. In addition to his role as Chairman of the New Democrats, Mr. Kind helped to foster an open dialogue on trade as a founder of the bipartisan Friends of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Caucus.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive the recognition of a renowned voice in the discussion on America’s role in the global economy,” Rep. Kind said in a statement. “I’ve always believed that our workers and businesses are the best in the world, and given a level playing field, they can compete with anyone, anywhere, anytime. That’s why I’ve worked tirelessly – and will continue working – to advance a trade strategy that lifts all Americans by raising standards and demanding more of our trading partners.”

Along with Rep. Kind, Rep. Charles Boustany Jr, MD (R-LA), Ambassador Michael Punke and Ambassador Clayton Yeutter were also honored for their efforts on trade at the WITA event.

The New Democrat Coalition is dedicated to maintaining America’s standing as the world’s strongest, most successful nation. Founded in 1997, the New Dems believe firmly in the power of American ingenuity and innovation, and are focused on finding ways to foster and harness this creativity to grow our economy, create new American jobs, and ensure a safer and more secure future for our country.
