New Democrat Coalition Leaders on Announcement Chair Kuster Will Not Seek Re-Election in 2024

Today, New Democrat Coalition Vice Chairs Sharice Davids (KS-03), Derek Kilmer (WA-06), Brad Schneider (IL-10), and Salud Carbajal (CA-24) issued the following statement on New Dem Chair Kuster’s decision to not seek reelection in New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District:

“Since joining Congress and the New Democrat Coalition over a decade ago, Chair Kuster has worked to build a better future for her constituents and for Americans across the country. When too many in Washington are a part of the problem, she’s always been a part of the solution.

“From helping champion the largest mental health and gun safety legislation in a decade, to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act, Kuster has made an incredible and lasting impact.

“Getting things done in Washington is not easy – far from it. However, Annie made it her mission in Congress to approach every day with radical hospitality and a willingness to work across the aisle to deliver real results. Her belief that we can find common ground on even the toughest issues facing our nation to make lives better in every community is why she’s been such a successful New Dem Chair.

“While we are sad to see her go, we look forward to working with her every single day for the rest of this Congress to finish the job for the American people. From delivering critical aid to our allies in Israel and Ukraine to expanding the Affordable Connectivity Program for communities nationwide and advancing comprehensive immigration reform, Annie will continue to steer the ship for the New Democrat Coalition.

“While there is so much more work that remains, on everything from clean energy deployment to mental health and childcare, we are confident that under Annie’s leadership this Congress, New Dems will continue leading the way. It’s been an honor to have her as Chair, and we look forward to continuing our work with her to deliver for Americans and ensure Democrats hold the gavel in 2025.”
