New Democrat Coalition Leaders React to Passage of CRomnibus Measure

The leadership of the House New Democrat Coalition released the following statement in response to the passage of the “CRomnibus” measure to keep the government open:

“When we work together on shared, bipartisan priorities instead of riders designed to appeal to a narrow, ideologically-driven base, we can achieve real results for the American people,” the statement read. “There’s as much to like about this bill as there is cause for concern. We are pleased, for example, that the Majority is willing to work with Democrats on setting adequate, and in some cases better than expected, funding levels for the government in the next year – particularly New Democrat priorities like research, innovation, and infrastructure -- and we applaud the proposed extension of a vital lifeline for American workers and firms, Trade Adjustment Assistance, as well as the State Trade and Export Promotion program, a core priority for small business owners.

Still, we are deeply concerned about several provisions that seem designed to poison the well of bipartisan cooperation. At a time when historic numbers of Americans are disgusted with a political process that seems driven more by the money than the many, it sends the wrong message to the American people to include provisions that expand the role of big money in campaign finance.

It is our hope that the House Majority will work in good faith with leaders in both parties to achieve real results in 2015. That is what the American people sent us here to do.”

The above statement was supported by House New Democrat Coalition Chairman Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI), Vice-Chairs Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) and New Dem Whip, Rep. John Carney (D-DE).

The New Democrat Coalition is dedicated to maintaining America’s standing as the world’s strongest, most successful nation. Founded in 1997, the New Dems believe firmly in the power of American ingenuity and innovation, and are focused on finding ways to foster and harness this creativity to grow our economy, create new American jobs, and ensure a safer and more secure future for our country.
