New Democrats Applaud Moderate Senators' Education Principles
Today, the New Democrat Coalition Education Task Force, led by co-chairs Representatives Susan Davis (CA-53) and Jared Polis (CO-2), released the statement below following the release of the Senate Moderate Democrats Working Group's A Call for Urgency: Statement of Principles to fix the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA):
"As our economy continues to stabilize and we work to achieve economic growth that is sustainable in the long-term, we cannot overlook the need to make reforms to our education system. The framework released today by the Senate Moderate Democrats Working Group takes the important step of detailing principles to reform ESEA to achieve our shared goal of ensuring every American child receives a quality, well-rounded education that fully prepares them to succeed in the future.
"As leaders of the New Dem Education Task Force, we are committed to bringing about change to our K-12 education system. Change that will encourage innovation, reward excellence, and provide all American students with a first-rate education so they enter college and the workforce fully prepared.
"We applaud the efforts of the Senate Moderate Democrats Working Group in designing A Call for Urgency and look forward to working with our colleagues in the House, Senate and the Administration to reform ESEA to meet the needs of the next generation of American workers."
