New Democrats Statement on Passage of Highway, FAA Extensions

Today, New Democrat Coalition Critical Infrastructure and Manufacturing Task Force co-chairs Representatives Rick Larsen (WA-2), Jason Altmire (PA-4) and Laura Richardson (CA-37) released the following statement hailing passage of the Surface and Air Transportation Programs Extension Act of 2011 (H.R. 2887):

“Strengthening our nation’s infrastructure is vital to creating jobs, growing our economy and maintaining our competitiveness in the 21st century global economy.  As New Democrats, we are encouraged by the work of our colleagues in the House and Senate for producing a common-sense solution to improve our roads, bridges and aviation systems and create real private-sector jobs.

“More needs to be done to make our transportation system the best in the world, but today’s bipartisan bill will provide the stability our cities, communities and states need to continue improving our country’s infrastructure and get Americans back to work.”

The New Democrats released an agenda for improving U.S. infrastructure and strengthening manufacturing which called for reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration and the Surface Transportation Programs to foster commerce in the U.S. and abroad.  The New Dems are committed to a comprehensive infrastructure strategy that strengthens U.S. transportation systems over the long-term using innovative initiatives that leverage public and private funds for improving our nation’s roads, bridges, tunnels and ports.
