To accompany the announcement, New Dem Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) penned an introductory letter, which you can read on the Substack here and below:

Welcome to the New Democrat Coalition’s substack! We’re thrilled you’re here.

I’m Brad Schneider, Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, fondly known as the New Dems, and the Representative for Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.

If you’re new to the New Dems – here’s what you need to know.

The New Democrat Coalition is a group of 114 moderate House Democrats serving in the 119th Congress. We are the largest ideological caucus in Congress, and pride ourselves on our dedication to breaking through the gridlock in Washington to get things done for all Americans. Our Members will work with everyone – and stand up to anyone – to achieve common sense solutions and protect shared American values.

Importantly, New Dems are also the Democratic Majority Makers, meaning we represent the vast majority of battleground districts in the country and will be responsible for ensuring Democrats take back control of  the House from Republicans in 2026. We have a record of winning in tough districts, and the upcoming midterm elections will be no different.

As Republicans have a governing trifecta with control of the White House, House, and Senate, New Dems are more important than ever – serving as the voice of commonsense in Congress. We will not shy away from confronting President Trump and Congressional Republicans to defend our values and safeguard our democracy. Nor will we hesitate to work together for the good of the nation. We’re here to move fast and fix things.

Working with our House leadership, New Dems are leading the Democratic party forward from the center with strong voices and bold policy ideas that can rally Americans across the political spectrum.

At the start of this Congress, we laid out a Vision for the Path Forward for the Democratic party focused on three pillars: economic growth and opportunity for all, healthy and safe communities, and strong national security and defense.

What does this look like in practice?

ECONOMIC GROWTH: An abundance of well-paying jobs so Americans can achieve financial freedom – not just making ends meet, but actually getting ahead. Families being able to afford a nice home and buy groceries and everyday goods at low costs, and seniors being able to retire with financial security and personal dignity.

HEALTHY AND SAFE COMMUNITIES: People feeling safe in their homes, on their way to work and school, and in their communities – without threat of violence or crime. To be able to drink the water and breathe the air in their neighborhoods without fear of illness.

STRONG NATIONAL SECURITY AND NATIONAL DEFENSE: A country that protects its citizens at home (including finally fixing our broken immigration system) and defends our interests abroad, leading the world in our shared fight against authoritarianism at every turn.

The American people want a government that listens to them, understands their needs and priorities, clears barriers, and opens pathways to opportunity. That’s the vision of the New Dems.

How are we getting this done?

We are hitting the road. Our Members, led by Vice Chair  of Policy Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), are traveling across the country to meet with constituents, businesses big and small, local government officials, nonprofits and more to hear about the issues that matter most to them. As part of our ‘New Dems on the Road Tour’ we are listening to the American people to inform policies we create in Washington.

We’re showing up in new spaces – from this newly-launched Substack to our weekly podcast “The Fly-In” hosted by Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33), we are engaging with all types of media in order to meet Americans where they are and provide information in the most digestible way possible.

Finally, we’re preparing – we are developing comprehensive policy plans on everything from taxes to immigration that will ensure we are ready to deliver on day one when we win back the House in 2026.

You can learn all about New Dems messaging and policy efforts by subscribing and following along to our efforts on this page and across our social media channels, which you can find in our LinkTree. We would love to hear from you about how we can work together to advance Democratic causes and tackle the issues that are top of your mind.

Stay tuned –

Brad Schneider, Chair of the New Democrat Coalition
