New Dems Applaud Actions to Undo Trump’s Harmful and Unlawful Order to Halt Federal Funding for Consequential Programs
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) and Vice Chair for Communications Marc Veasey (TX-33) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration was forced to rescind the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo that ordered agencies to halt the payment of federal grants and loans:
“The American people have spoken: the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions to end federal funding for key programs that hardworking families rely on is wholly unacceptable.
“New Dems quickly responded to help lead in rebuking this move, resulting in a federal judge blocking the action and the Office of Management and Budget rescinding the disastrous order.
“Unfortunately, much damage is already done. No amount of backtracking can undo the chaos and confusion Americans continue to experience. The Trump Administration and House Republicans have shown that they intend to continue pushing their unlawful plans to steal federal funds intended for children, seniors, Veterans, first responders, and so many others.
“Make no mistake: President Trump will continue his efforts to cut funding on critical programs the American people need for healthcare, law enforcement, housing, education, and childcare to make room for more tax cuts for his family and the billionaires like those who sat in the front row of his inauguration.
“We know this is just the beginning, and New Dems will continue fighting on behalf of the American people to cut inflation, make our communities safer, and strengthen national security.”
