New Dems Applaud Senate Passage of Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Conference Report

Today, leaders of the New Democrat Coalition led by Chair, Congressman Joseph Crowley (NY-07) and the New Dem Financial Services Task Force Co-Chairs Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) and Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04), released the following statement upon the Senate's passage of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 Conference Report (H.R. 4173): ?

"Today's passage of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Conference Report by the Senate moves us towards finally addressing the causes of the financial crisis of 2008.  The New Dems applaud our colleagues in the Senate for building upon the work of the House and passing this historic bill that puts in place tough new rules of the road for Wall Street, strong new protections for American families and businesses, and ends taxpayer bailouts.

"We are proud of the role the New Dems played in crafting this legislation, from the release of the New Democrats' Plan for Creating a 21st Century Regulatory Structure, to our work in helping move it through the committees of jurisdiction and out of the House, and finally through the House-Senate conference and passage in the Senate. Throughout this process the New Democrats have remained committed to enacting these much-needed reforms to prevent a future system-wide collapse and subsequent taxpayer-funded bailout like we saw over a year ago."

Statement supported by New Democrat Coalition Financial Services Task Force Co-Chairs Representative Melissa Bean (IL-08) and Representative Jim Himes (CT-04) and the New Dem Leadership, led by Chair Representative Joseph Crowley (NY-07), and Vice-Chairs Representative Melissa Bean (IL-08), Representative Ron Kind (WI-03), Representative Allyson Schwartz (PA-13), and Representative Adam Smith (WA-09).??
