New Dems Call on Speaker McCarthy to Hold Bipartisan House Member Meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy During Visit to Washington
Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) and NDC National Security Task Force Chair Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) released a statement calling on Speaker McCarthy to hold a bipartisan Member meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Washington on Thursday.
This move follows Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s announcement of an all-senators meeting with the Ukrainian President. New Dems previously praised the Administration’s Supplemental Funding Request to authorize an additional $24 billion in military funding for Ukraine.
“As Ukraine continues their counteroffensive to reclaim their territory and secure their freedom, Congress must reaffirm its unwavering commitment to Ukraine at this critical juncture in the war.
“It is more important now than ever to rebuke Russia’s unprovoked aggression and Putin’s ruthlessness as far-right Republicans resist aiding the people of Ukraine. Speaker McCarthy should hold a bipartisan meeting for Members of the House of Representatives to hear directly from President Zelenskyy on why continued support is crucial to U.S. national security and for the future of global security and democracy."
