New Dems Call on Speaker McCarthy to Reject GOP Extremism and Find Common Ground to Advance Critical Funding Bills
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Vice Chair for Policy Derek Kilmer (WA-06) released the following statement calling on Speaker McCarthy to reject GOP extremism and instead pursue a bipartisan approach to the appropriations process that is consistent with the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which bipartisan majorities voted for in the House:
“This week, the House is preparing to take up important appropriations bills. Unfortunately, instead of working with responsible Members on both sides of the aisle to pass full-year government funding bills, the Speaker once again decided to give in to the far-right fringe of his party that is pushing extreme policies.
“The annual appropriations process requires bipartisan cooperation to function properly. Instead of spending valuable time voting on hyper-partisan bills that are dead on arrival in the Senate and that the President has vowed to veto, New Dems call on the Speaker to change course and find common ground with reasonable Members on the federal budget that is consistent with the terms of the bipartisan debt ceiling deal.”
