New Dems: House Republican Budget Crushes Working Americans Under the Weight of Billionaire Bailouts

Today, Vice Chair for Policy Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) and Economic Growth & Cost of Living Working Group Chair Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) issued a statement after House Republicans voted to advance a budget resolution that defunds critical programs working people rely on, gifts trillions in tax cuts that largely benefit the wealthiest Americans:

“House Republicans’ disaster of a budget sacrifices the wellbeing of hardworking Americans on the mantle of massive tax cuts for their megabillionaire donors.

“Speaker Johnson and House Republicans’ budget will force the largest Medicaid cut in American history, jeopardizing health care for 72 million Americans. They promised to lower the cost of living. Instead, low-income families are grappling with uncertainty and rising grocery prices under Trump’s national sales tax and House Republicans are cutting $230 billion from the food assistance programs that keep 1 in 5 children from going hungry.

“And while they eviscerate critical programs families, children, seniors, and Veterans rely on, these very same lawmakers are plotting $4.5 trillion in unjustifiable, deficit-raising tax cuts to line the pockets of a handful of billionaires like Elon Musk.

“New Dems are appalled at House Republicans’ betrayal of the hardworking people who sent them to Congress. We’ll do everything in our power to fight back against this agenda and deliver on our promises to lower costs, protect health care, and improve the lives of the constituents we serve.”
