New Dems Reiterate Demand for Secretary Hegseth’s Resignation Following New Details of Incompetence and Irresponsibility
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) and National Security Working Group Chair Gil Cisneros (CA-31) are once again calling on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to resign or be fired immediately following new revelations that the Secretary recklessly shared war plans with more than a dozen civilians – including his wife, brother, and personal lawyer – in a chat he created on Signal, a non-secure commercial messaging service.
This news comes as several recently terminated top Pentagon officials have been sounding the alarm about the chaos under Secretary Hegseth’s leadership. New Dem leaders previously called for Secretary Hegseth’s resignation following the initial Signalgate scandal.
New Dem Chair Brad Schneider and National Security Working Group Chair Gil Cisneros issued the following statement:
“These new revelations should come as no surprise given the growing body of evidence that clearly demonstrates Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s incompetence and the threat he poses to our national security and the safety of our armed forces.
“Secretary Hegseth has put the lives of American servicemembers at risk by repeatedly jeopardizing classified information and sparking widespread chaos at the Pentagon – what one former top aide described as a ‘full-blown meltdown.’
“This unprecedented level of incompetence is dangerous and unacceptable. We never had confidence in Secretary Hegseth’s ability to lead our armed forces or act in our nation’s best interests, and his actions in office have fully justified our concerns.
“We once again demand that the Secretary resign immediately, and if he doesn’t resign, reiterate our call for him to be fired.”
