New Dems’ Statement on U.S.-Panama TPA

Today, leaders of the New Democrat Coalition released the following statement praising the Senate Finance Committee hearing on the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) and encouraging action on the U.S. Panama-TPA.

"The New Democrats are pleased that the Senate Finance Committee, led by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), is focused on advancing the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement. As New Democrats, we are committed to a pro-growth agenda, which includes action on free and fair trade agreements, to help lift us out of the current economic downturn. We are especially proud that this agreement incorporates the strengthened labor and environmental standards that New Democrats helped negotiate as part of the bipartisan agreement reached on May 10, 2007.

We look forward to working with the Administration to approve the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA), as well as the rest of the Administration's trade agenda."

Statement supported by New Democrat Coalition Leadership Representatives Ellen Tauscher (CA-32), Joseph Crowley (NY-07), Ron Kind (WI-03), Adam Smith (WA-09), Melissa Bean (IL-08), and Allyson Schwartz (PA-13).
