New Dems Welcome Three New Members

Reps. Driehaus, Markey and Nye join New Democrat Coalition

Today, Members of the New Democrat Coalition welcomed three new members to the group, Congressman Steve Driehaus (OH-1), Congresswoman Betsy Markey (CO-4) and Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-2). Representatives Driehaus, Markey and Nye will bring real world experience and innovative ideas to the organization, as the New Dems work hard to strengthen our economy, ensure American businesses and workers can compete and win in the global marketplace, and help all American families prosper in the 21st Century.

"Over the coming year, we have significant work that needs to be done to get our economy back on track and support American families, workers and businesses," said Congressman Joseph Crowley (NY-7), New Dem Chair. "I am so pleased Representatives Driehaus, Markey and Nye are joining the ranks of the New Democrat Coalition. They are smart, engaged Members of Congress who will bring new ideas and energy to the work of the Coalition."

In his career in the Ohio State House and now in Congress on the Financial Services Committee, Rep. Driehaus' focus on policies that support growth for American businesses and stability for the middle-class aligns with the goals of the New Dems. As a former small business owner and entrepreneur, Rep. Markey will bring firsthand knowledge to the New Dems' work restoring Main Street businesses and jobs that are the economic engine of our country. Rep. Nye brings valuable foreign policy and trade experience as a former Foreign Service Officer that will be vital as the New Dems work to expand opportunities for American businesses and workers abroad. Together, these members bring significant leadership and dedication to American families and workers that will be strong additions to the New Democrat Coalition.

"I'm honored to be welcomed into the New Democrat Coalition today. The New Dems' agenda represents the best ideas for promoting job growth, helping small businesses, and moving our nation forward on the path toward recovery. As a moderate legislator, I have consistently pushed for common-sense, pragmatic solutions to the problems facing greater Cincinnati and the United States, and I look forward to working with my fellow New Dems to help us meet these challenges," said Congressman Steve Driehaus (OH-1).

"Since my first day in Congress, I have been focused on finding common ground, common sense solutions to America's number one challenge: creating jobs," said Congresswoman Betsy Markey (CO-4). "As a former small business owner, I know firsthand that supporting small businesses and encouraging investment and innovation in the private sector are critical to our economic recovery, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues to put America back to work and make our country even stronger."

Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-2) said, "The New Democrat Coalition is focused on strengthening our economy, and I'm proud to be a part of their efforts. As Chairman of the Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting & Technology, I'm committed to helping small businesses grow and succeed, and I look forward to working with the New Democrat Coalition to help small businesses in Virginia and across the country create jobs."

The New Democrat Coalition is a Coalition of 69 members of the U.S. House of Representatives who are dedicated to the prosperity and security of American families and business. Founded in 1997, the NDC provides Members of Congress with the opportunity to advance a common sense policy agenda focused on empowering the U.S. to grow economically and maintain a vibrant job market, preserving the U.S. standing as the world's leader in innovation and technological advancement, and strengthening our economic and national security.
