ICYMI: New Democrat Coalition Chairman Rep. Ron Kind Demands Solution to Reopen Government, Avoid Default on C-SPAN's Washington Journal
On C-SPAN’s Washington Journal this morning, New Democrat Coalition Chairman Rep. Ron Kind (WI-03) stressed the importance of working in a bipartisan manner to reopen the government and avoid a catastrophic default on the nation’s debt.
“…We’ve got to open up the government. We’ve got to pay our bills, as a great nation is expected to, and then we need to begin conversations on a long-term deficit reduction agreement to get our fiscal house in order. That will help restore some business and consumer confidence, and hopefully get the economy going again, creating good-paying jobs.”
Chairman Kind emphasized that the American people have grown exhausted of a government that lurches from one crisis to the next, with little hope of a long-term resolution that strengthens our economy and controls the drivers of our debt – exploding health care and entitlement costs.
“We cannot leap from crisis to crisis and govern by short-term measures.”
Chairman Kind called on Americans to reject ideology and come together for common-sense solutions to move the country forward.
“You can continue to go around this block all you want and figure out ways to further divide people in this nation, but I’m just not interested in that anymore. We need to figure out a path forward. We need to solve these problems that seem intractable right now, and start getting this government to function properly again.”
Chairman Kind said that moderate, reasonable groups like the New Democrat Coalition help to bridge the ideological gulf between the parties and focus on what’s really important to the American people – providing certainty to businesses and workers to get the economy moving again.
“That’s why I’m proud of chairing this New Democrat Coalition, a group of 53 moderate, centrist, pro-growth Democrats trying to understand the complexities of the global economy we’re in. How do we help our businesses and people be more competitive in this global marketplace, and how do we ensure that no one’s left behind?”
As the Chairman said, we need to create space for members to work together and find common ground. The New Democrat Coalition is here to do just that.
