New Dem of the Week: Rep. Suzan DelBene
Rep. DelBene tours Janicki Industries at Hamilton, WA to learn the company's manufacturing process for composite materials and discuss ways to support local businesses in the growing composites industry.
Why she's proud to be a New Dem:
"It's important that lawmakers in Congress are good stewards of policy. Keeping our policy up to date will create jobs, spur innovation and build the foundation for long-term economic growth. This is an approach the New Democrat Coalition supports and will help us move past the rhetoric and achieve results for the families and businesses in our districts. I know that my New Dem colleagues and I are committed to working in a bipartisan manner to find solutions to issues critical to strengthening our economy and expanding opportunity, such as immigration reform and college affordability."
Her pragmatic, problem-solving experience:
With over 20 years of successful experience in the private sector, Suzan brings a wealth of knowledge to Congress, especially when it comes to encouraging business formation and growth in the technology sector. After working in the biotechnology sector, Suzan earned her MBA from the University of Washington and went on to help in the founding of drugstore.com and serve as CEO and president of Nimble Technology. She spent 12 years as a senior executive at Microsoft, where she led the company's mobile communications business, specializing in sales, marketing, and product management for the company's mobile efforts.
Suzan's innovative policy entrepreneurship:
This week, Suzan was named a Congressional Tech Leader by TechAmerica for her "commitment to support the technology industry." Her Small Business Tax Credit Accessibility Act would help entrepreneurs and startups throughout the country grow and thrive. She continues to work tirelessly on issues of importance to the technology leaders in her Washington-based district, including patent reform, tax reform, smart workforce development to ensure a pipeline of well-trained workers to high-wage jobs, and a robust clean energy agenda.
