New Democrat Coalition Applauds Designation of 31 Regional Tech Hubs, Including 17 Represented by New Dems

Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Vice Chair for Policy Derek Kilmer (WA-06) released a statement applauding the Biden Administration’s announcement designating 31 Regional Tech Hubs as part of the $10 billion Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs Program authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.

Of the 31 Tech Hubs, 17 are represented by New Dem Members. These regions are identified by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) as having assets and resources with the potential for rapid growth and job creation in key technology sectors.

The Coalition has long championed efforts to spur economic growth in communities across the country and develop domestic technology industries, including through advocacy for the Tech Hubs and related programs during the formation of the CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act. Spearheaded by Vice Chair Kilmer, the Coalition also helped secure authorization of the Recompete Pilot Program in the CHIPS and Science Act. Following the Tech Hubs announcement, EDA expects to announce the Phase 1 Recompete recipients this winter.

NDC Chair Kuster and Vice Chair Kilmer released a statement following the announcement:

“We commend the Biden Administration for its implementation of the Tech Hubs program, one of several provisions New Dems championed in the CHIPS and Science Act.

“The Coalition is proud that our Members represent some of the most innovative regions in the country, and more than half of the inaugural Tech Hubs. New Dems are committed to promoting economic growth, job creation, and innovation in communities across the country – particularly to ensure U.S. industries and the workforce are poised to lead the world as we build the economy of the future.

“We look forward to working with the Administration and our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strengthen our domestic industries by quickly and effectively implementing the CHIPS and Science Act, Inflation Reduction Act, and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
