New Dem Leadership Endorses Biden Administration’s Funding Request that Includes Support for Israel and Ukraine
The Administration's request follows the Coalition’s push to support our allies, address the southern border, and tackle the fentanyl crisis
Today, New Democrat Coalition Leadership endorsed the Biden administration’s $106 billion supplemental request, which will provide approximately $60 billion in funding to support Ukraine, $14 billion to support Israel, and $10 billion in humanitarian assistance for civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and elsewhere. The request also includes $7 billion to reinforce our Indo-Pacific allies like Taiwan and $14 billion to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, stem the flow of illicit fentanyl, and streamline immigration processes.
NDC Leadership released the following statement on their endorsement:
“New Dems fully support President Biden's supplemental funding request that will provide much-needed support to the Ukrainian and Israeli people in their fights against tyranny and terror, as well as critical humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. Importantly, it also would deliver crucial resources to tackle domestic national security priorities, such as securing the southern border and strengthening our military’s readiness.
“The American people and our allies are calling on the U.S. government to demonstrate strength, leadership, and resolve as we face unprecedented challenges at home and abroad. Speaking from the Oval Office last night, President Biden made clear that he will answer the call. Now Congress must follow suit.
“Unfortunately, House Republican infighting continues to paralyze Congress, preventing us from delivering on the issues that really matter to the American people and global community, such as fighting inflation, addressing growing child poverty, and reducing our nation’s debt. For more than two weeks, extremist Republicans have prevented regular order in the House and refuse to work with Democrats to find common ground on a bipartisan governing coalition.
“This moment demands urgency. It’s time Republicans put partisanship aside and work with Democrats to deliver this much-needed funding. We urge our colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the Capitol to fulfill their promises to the American people and our allies and advance the President’s request without unnecessary delay. There’s no time to waste."
