NDC Immigration and Border Security Task Force Leaders Call for Actions to Protect DACA Recipients Ahead of 12th Anniversary
June 15th, marks 12 years since former President Barack Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Ahead of this anniversary, New Democrat Coalition Immigration and Border Security Task Force Chair Greg Stanton (AZ-04) and Vice Chairs Salud Carbajal (CA-24) and Lou Correa (CA-46) issued a statement calling for action to protect DACA recipients:
“Tomorrow marks 12 years since President Obama created the DACA program, which protects hundreds of thousands of young people, many of whom arrived in our country as infants and toddlers, from deportation. They have built their lives in the U.S.— graduating from American schools, growing their careers and starting their families here. They’re deeply embedded in the fabric of our communities.
“As extremist Republicans in Congress continue to block commonsense progress, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will soon rule again on the status of the DACA program. This Republican-led inaction has left Dreamers in limbo— they live every day with fear and uncertainty about their future in the only country they’ve ever called home.
“New Dems have consistently supported strong border security policies and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers. We know more needs to be done. The New Dems are committed to working with Administration and our colleagues to take action to protect DACA recipients, long-term undocumented individuals and their families.”
