New Dem Chair and National Security Task Force Chair Statement on House Passage of Bipartisan NDAA
Guided by the National Security Task Force’s five NDAA Priorities, New Dems secured key provisions to foster innovation, support servicemembers, strengthen military readiness, and more
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) and National Security Task Force Chair Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) released a statement applauding the passage of a bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) through the House. The bill passed by a vote of 310-118, including 92 New Dems in favor.
Spearheaded by the National Security Task Force, New Dems secured key priorities in the final version of the NDAA. Of the 23 provisions requested in the Task Force’s November letter, 21 were fully or partially incorporated in the final bill.
“As we face global threats not seen in decades, America must demonstrate strong global leadership to protect our national security and that of our allies. New Dems applaud the passage of a bipartisan, bicameral NDAA that responds to these ongoing threats while ensuring our military has the personnel and capabilities to meet the challenges of the future. Despite House Republicans’ efforts to drive a partisan wedge through the NDAA process, responsible lawmakers on both sides of the aisle prevailed.
“However, Congress’ efforts to bolster our security and the security of our allies cannot end with the NDAA. New Dems will continue working diligently to pass legislation that reflects President Biden’s supplemental request to provide vital support to Ukraine and Israel, aid innocent civilians in Gaza, reinforce our allies in the Indo-Pacific, and secure the southern border.”
