New Dem Chair Demands Speaker Johnson Hold a Vote on ACA Extension This Week
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued a statement after four House Republicans joined all House Democrats in forcing a vote on a clean, three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Yesterday, New Dem Leadership called on a handful of House Republicans to join the three-year extension discharge petition.
“Democrats have been clear from the start that the best solution to rising health costs is to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that help millions of working Americans and their families. New Dems have been consistently reaching out to our Republican colleagues, asking them to put partisanship aside, and today we welcome those who have joined us in demanding a vote.
“While Speaker Johnson must now hold this vote, he should do so without delay. The Senate must follow suit, sending it to President Trump before Congress leaves for the holiday break. Congress cannot, in good conscience, go home for the holidays while millions of Americans are left to wonder if they will have to choose between their health insurance and putting food on the table come January 1st.”
