New Dem Leadership Blasts House Republicans for Greenlighting Billions to Costly Iran War
Reconciliation bill leaves American Families footing the bill
Today, New Democrat Coalition Leadership issued a statement after House Republicans voted to advance their reckless, partisan budget to continue bankrolling Trump’s cost-raising agenda, including $73 billion for his war in Iran and $10 billion to incentivize states to implement his voter suppression bill—the SAVE Act.
While many working families are already suffering from the devastating cuts in Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill,” this latest spending package includes zero provisions to address the high cost of living or finally rein in the president’s unchecked powers.
“There is absolutely no reason why Republicans should be spending more money on an ill-conceived war that has already cost American taxpayers more than $37 billion dollars, claimed the lives of 18 U.S. servicemembers, and is forcing families to pay more for gas and other essential goods at a time when the cost of living is already way too high.
“Americans’ top priority for Congress right now couldn’t be more obvious: lower costs and give workers and their families some much needed relief. They don’t want more attacks on voting rights or more money sent to a failed war. To make matters worse, Republicans have no plan to pay for this $100 billion bill, which means they will cut deeper into Americans’ healthcare and pile more debt onto our children’s backs to bankroll Trump’s war.
“New Dems call on our colleagues to come to the table so we can work on passing smart legislation that will make Americans’ lives easier, not harder.”
