New Dem Leadership Urges Colleagues to Support American Tax Payer Relief Act

Today, the leaders of the New Democrat Coalition, led by Chair Ron Kind (WI-03), and Vice Chairs Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Jim Himes (CT-04), Rick Larsen (WA-02), and Allyson Schwartz (PA-13), released the following statement:

"We have an agreement.  We have a path forward. While we have some reservations, this compromise is necessary to give certainty to the middle class.

“As New Dems, we believe we must go big with a balanced approach of a combination of revenue increases and spending cuts that avoids sequestration to make clear to our taxpayers, our employers, and to the world that the United States is serious about reducing its debt without stifling investments to innovation, infrastructure, and education.

“In the 113th Congress, we must get to work on comprehensive tax reform that will lower the marginal corporate tax rates, support our nation's domestic manufacturers and innovators, remove inefficiencies and maintain the progressivity of the tax code. Next Congress, New Dems will make up more than one fourth of the House Democratic Caucus, and we know our Members will play a pivotal role.  We look forward to promptly addressing our nation’s debt and tackling long-term deficit reduction while continuing on a path to build a great innovative nation of shared prosperity.”

Statement supported by New Dem Leadership Members, led by Chair Representative Ron Kind (WI-03), and Vice-Chairs Representatives Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Jim Himes (CT-04), Rick Larsen (WA-02), Allyson Schwartz (PA-13).
