New Democrat Coalition Chair Derek Kilmer Statement on the House Passage of Broad Legislation to Fight Climate Change
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Derek Kilmer released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act:
“There’s no denying it: climate change is real, and it’s already posing a real threat to communities across the Pacific Northwest, our nation, and our world. The American people are not just demanding action – but leadership – to counter the impacts of climate change. Today, Congress took an important step and passed the Climate Action Now Act, a bill that would enable America to join every other nation on the planet in committing to the Paris Climate Agreement. Additionally it directs the Administration to develop a comprehensive plan to meet the emission reductions that we committed to back in 2015. Addressing climate change is not just a necessity for our planet but is also an opportunity to create new green-collar jobs and sustainable economic growth. The time for action is now, and I am proud that the New Democrat Coalition voted to support this landmark legislation.”
Earlier this week, the House New Democrat Coalition (NDC) endorsed H.R. 9. The NDC is the only ideological caucus to formally endorse the bill. Read the full statement from NDC Chair Derek Kilmer, Vice Chair for Policy Suzan DelBene, and Climate Change Task Force Co-Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Sean Casten, Elaine Luria, and Susan Wild on the endorsement.
