New Democrat Coalition Chair Statement on Supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act

Today, the New Democrat Coalition Chair Derek Kilmer (WA-06) released the following statement after H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, passed in the House of Representatives:

“In this country, everyone deserves to be treated equally. Today’s passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act is an important step towards eliminating the wage gap between men and women. This bill will help close loopholes and strengthen the 1963 Equal Pay Act, to ensure the country moves ever-closer to women receiving equal pay for equal work. It’s unthinkable that in today’s economy, working women still earn just 80 cents, on average, for every dollar a man earns. And that wage gap is even larger for women of color. I want my children to grow up knowing that their work is valued just the same as anyone else’s work. Congress is doing what’s right by bringing this legislation to the House floor – and I am proud to vote in favor of it.”

Rep. Kilmer has co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act in every Congress since he was elected.
