New Democrat Coalition Leaders Supported Passage of TRIA Reauthorization
The pro-growth House New Democrat Coalition’s Financial Services Task Force Co-Chairs released the following statement in response to the passage of a reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) this afternoon:
“It is more important than ever, at a time when private market solutions do not exist to protect innovators and job creators from the threat of terrorist attacks, that the federal government step in and fill this crucial role,” the leaders said in a joint statement. “That is why we are pleased to have supported the successful renewal of TRIA, which is designed to provide a backstop in times of crisis generated by terrorism. We are also glad to see several other priorities that have had strong, bipartisan support in the past pass as part of this package, including provisions that strengthen the ability of small business owners, ranchers, farmers and manufacturers to mitigate their risk. TRIA is a reassurance that, though we can never recover the human toll of individual terrorist attacks, we can ensure that new businesses and a new, resolute economy rise in the wake of them and announce to the world that we are not afraid.”
The above statement was endorsed by New Democrat Coalition Financial Services Committee Task Force Co-Chairs Rep. Gary Peters (D-MI), Rep. John Carney (D-DE) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), as well as Vice-Chair Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT).
