New Democrat Coalition on Release of January 6th Committee’s Final Report

Last night, the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the Capitol released a report examining the conduct of former President Trump and his co-conspirators in the lead up to the January 6th attack on the Capitol, following the Committee’s final session on Monday. The report refers four criminal charges against former president Donald Trump to the Justice Department.

New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the below statement following the final report release:

“Thank you to our colleagues on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol for your tireless, brave, and painstaking work. The Committee has gathered extensive evidence over their 18-month investigation, and their groundbreaking eight-chapter report reveals the truth of the insurrection.

“The report makes clear that the former president actively tried to undermine the results of an election that he knew he lost. His clearly documented disregard for the rule of law and our nation’s democratic institutions demand accountability.

“New Dems support the work and referrals of the January 6th Committee, and we thank our New Dem Members Adam Schiff (CA-28), Pete Aguilar (CA-31), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), and Elaine Luria (VA-02) who valiantly served on the Committee. We also thank the U.S. Capitol Police for their bravery and heroism. Their work protected and saved the lives of many on January 6th.

“It is critical that we do everything in our power to ensure a deadly event like January 6th never happens again, hold those responsible accountable for their actions, curb violence and extremism, and protect our democracy.”

Following the January 6th insurrection, the New Democrat Coalition endorsed a number of NDC Member-led resolutions and bills to honor the heroic actions of the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement and Americans, as well as respond to and curb acts of domestic terrorism.
