New Dems Secure Key Priorities in End-of-Year Government Funding Package
Today, New Dems unanimously voted to pass government funding legislation that contained significant wins secured by the New Democrat Coalition.
New Democrat Coalition Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the below statement on final passage of the legislation:
“New Dems fought hard to include several key priorities in this legislation, including $200 million for Chair Emeritus Kilmer’s RECOMPETE Act pilot program, lifesaving legislation to address the mental health and addiction crises, and policies and funding to increase the supply of affordable housing and the development and deployment of clean energy projects.
“Rep. Kilmer’s RECOMPETE pilot will unlock the untapped potential of communities across the nation, create good paying jobs, and invest in the long-term economic development of communities often left behind. New Dems made this legislation a priority in the 117th Congress and are thrilled to see this funding in the final bill.
“I am also grateful for the leadership of New Dem Health Care Task Force Co-Chairs Kim Schrier (WA-08) and Terri Sewell (AL-07) for their leadership on the mental health and substance use disorder crises. They worked hard to secure passage of NDC-endorsed legislation that will provide critical prevention, care, treatment, and support to Americans in need.
“Additionally, New Dem Rep. Spanberger’s NDC-endorsed Growing Climate Solutions Act was included in the bill. This legislation will remove barriers for farmers, ranchers, and foresters interested in participating in carbon markets and create incentives for embracing climate-smart practices.”
“In the 118th Congress, New Dems will continue our commitment to work across the aisle to make progress for the American people.”
