New Dems Call for Urgent Action on Immigration Legislation Before End of the Year

The Affordable and Secure Food Act will stabilize and preserve the American agricultural industry and lower food prices by addressing the labor shortage

New Dems have also called for urgent action on a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers before the end of the year

Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Immigration Task Force Co-Chairs Salud Carbajal (CA-24) and Greg Stanton (AZ-09) released the following statement calling for urgent action on the Affordable and Secure Food Act, which will help reform the nation’s immigration system.

“We applaud the introduction of the bipartisan Affordable and Secure Food Act. This legislation will provide a path to legal status for farmworkers, update and streamline the H-2A visa program, and ensure fair wages and working conditions.

“New Dems have long called for comprehensive immigration reform. Our Members previously endorsed and voted to pass the Farm Workforce Modernization Act in the House. We know this is a critical opportunity to modernize our immigration system, bolster our workforce to bring down costs for Americans, and provide a pathway to citizenship to integral members of our community and economy.

“We will continue working with our colleagues in the House and Senate to advance this bipartisan legislation and legislation to address Dreamers before the end of the year.”

Last week, DelBene, Carbajal, and Stanton called for urgent action on a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers before the end of the year. Earlier this Congress, New Dems endorsed H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act and H.R. 1603, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act and pushed to pass these bills in our Action Plan to Fight Inflation.
