New Dems Release Governing Agenda – The American Promise: Lower Costs, Less Chaos, Real Solutions

Today, the New Democrat Coalition Leadership announced the release of a broad, bold, and positive agenda that will guide our work through the rest of the 119th Congress and beyond, laying out how New Dems plan to lower costs, tackle the nation’s most significant challenges, and rebuild confidence in the government’s ability to do big things.

The American people are exhausted by the chaos, cruelty, and incompetence of the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans. Our 114 New Dem Members have traveled across the country and heard the pleas from our constituents for leadership in Washington that finally puts working people and their families first. They want competent public servants who can and will put the country back on track, crack down on rising costs, end the chaos, and take on the rampant corruption that has corroded trust in the federal government.

New Dem Leadership issued the following statement on the release:

“President Trump, his cabinet, and Republicans in Congress are repeatedly failing the American people. Prices are skyrocketing, wars are raging, and hardworking people are seeing their health care pillaged to line the pockets of billionaires.

“New Dems know people are looking for more than finger-pointing, which is why we are committed to delivering real solutions that will make life better for all Americans. We are proud to stand with all our New Dem colleagues in making this American Promise.

“With this governing agenda as our guide, we are excited to meet the challenges of the moment with robust ideas and the broad coalition we need to break the gridlock in Congress. From ending the housing and health care crises to lowering costs and rooting out corruption, New Dems are working tirelessly to restore the American Dream for every American.”

The New Dems’ American Promise represents the efforts of our Members over the past year – directed through the work of New Dems’ nine Working Groups, with information gathered from New Dem On the Road events and additional nationwide outreach – to compile a proactive, comprehensive, and forward-looking agenda that will return commonsense governance to Washington and put the American Dream back within reach. The document lays out a roadmap built on results-driven legislation, not empty policy proposals, that is centered around three fundamental goals:

Giving every American a fair shot to get ahead by lowering costs, powering the workforce, and reinvesting in rural America.
Fixing our nation’s biggest problems by delivering better healthcare at lower prices, ending the housing crisis, creating a fast and fair immigration system, and investing in America’s future.
Restoring faith in government and cracking down on corruption by protecting voting rights, banning insider scams in Congress and the Administration, and restoring constitutional checks and balances and Congress’s constitutional authorities.

The New Dems’ American Promise also includes an extensive Legislative Roadmap that lays out a long list of bills aligned with the policy goals established throughout the document. Our governing agenda draws on the policies laid out in the New Dems’ ten previously released platforms as well as a new Anti-Corruption Agenda:

Make immigration enforcement targeted and humane.
Create a pathway to permanent legal status for Dreamers.

Build four million new homes in 10 years by cutting through red tape and leveraging federal resources.
Utilize federal tax credits to accelerate affordable housing production.
Invest in new construction technologies and support the development of innovative housing models.

Invest in America’s Future

Incentivize innovation through public-private partnerships that ensure America outcompetes China.
Harness the potential of AI while establishing guardrails that protect workers and consumers.
Bolster STEM learning and degrees to build the next generation of innovators.

Restore Faith in Government & Fight Corruption

Protect and restore the Voting Rights Act.
Ban insider trading, prediction market schemes, and crypto scams by Members of Congress and senior officials.
Reassert the powers of Congress and establish a binding code of ethics for the Supreme Court.
