What They’re Saying About the New Democrat Coalition Cybersecurity Plan: Safeguarding Our Economy and Our Future

Yesterday, the New Democrat Coalition, through the leadership of New Democrat Coalition Cybersecurity Task Force Co-Chairs Reps. Derek Kilmer, Kathleen Rice, Josh Gottheimer, unveiled a robust cyber policy plan. Recent high-profile cyber incidents and the rise of Ransomware have shown the very real consequences of cyber threats.  Cyber threats have evolved alongside new innovations so Congress must do more to secure our nation, families and businesses.

Think tanks, technology and internet associations and organizations, and companies have a lot to say about the New Democrat Coalition plan already. See more below:

“The New Dem’s Cybersecurity agenda charts a bold path forward to protect the internet against a myriad of threats. It both recognizes the need for security and the importance of economic growth and innovation. It also recognizes the need for the government to partner with the private sector, in order to ensure both are bringing their best efforts to the problem.”

  • Mieke Eoyang, Vice President for the National Security Program, Third Way

“Keeping the Internet and our digital life healthy and open in the years ahead has become an urgent policy challenge for lawmakers in Washington.  This NDC’s new cyber framework is a welcome and valuable contribution to this emerging space, and will without doubt be highly influential in shaping future Congressional legislation and thinking on this vital matter.”

  • Simon Rosenberg, President and Founder of NDN

“ITIF welcomes the cybersecurity policy proposals put forward by the New Democrat Coalition. Comprehensive cybersecurity reforms are long overdue. Following a wave of significant cyberattacks this past year – from Russian interference in elections to ransomware, botnets, and massive data breaches – American citizens and businesses can’t afford to wait any longer for policymakers to address these problems. Cybersecurity legislation should be a top priority for Congress, and the proposals outlined in this white paper offer multiple measures that would help secure our critical and commercial networks, systems, and devices.”

  • Daniel Castro, Vice President, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation

“The internet industry thanks the New Democrat Coalition Cybersecurity Task Force for their thoughtful and thorough work on this important issue. We look forward to working them and other stakeholders to continue to improve the security of the internet in order to safeguard our economy and future prosperity.”

  • Internet Association Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs Melika Carroll

“We applaud the New Democrat Coalition’s Cybersecurity Task Force for proposing a bold, innovative agenda which recognizes that public and private stakeholders must all work together to ensure that American consumers benefit from a secure internet ecosystem.”

  • Michael Powell, President & CEO, NCTA - The Internet & Television Association

“DTCC applauds the Task Force’s initiative and agrees that strengthening the public-private partnerships in the areas identified in the white paper will benefit the U.S.’ cyber defenses.”

  • Mark Wetjen, Managing Director & Head of Global Public Policy for The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC)

“As a leading cyber provider, Northrop Grumman recognizes the seriousness of the global cyber threat and appreciates the coalition’s focus on this issue that is critical to our economic and national security.  Northrop Grumman looks forward to working with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to help strengthen our nation’s cyber security.”

  • Tim Paynter, Northrop Grumman Vice President, Strategic Communications
