New Dems Present Episode 19 "Holding Pattern" with Rep. Sara Jacobs

Untitled design-5

In Episode 19, “Holding Pattern” Congressman Marc Veasey and guest-host Congresswoman Sara Jacobs join the pod virtually one week after the start of the Republican Shutdown, while House Republicans continue their extended vacation to block any attempts at reopening the government. Veasey and Jacobs discuss the state of play and potential path forward to end the shutdown, why Democrats are fighting to protect health care and lower costs, and what the Trump Administration has done to further harm federal workers during the shutdown.

The Members also discuss cracks forming in the Republican strategy and react to a clip of Speaker Mike Johnson lying about the Republicans’ attacks on healthcare for working families.

Member Highlights

Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) hosted a press conference amidst the government shutdown, calling on Congress to pass a budget that protects the health care of working people, reversing the trillion-dollar Medicaid cuts and renewing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits.

Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) penned a letter alongside the Georgia delegation urging House Republicans to return to Washington as the government shutdown. “Overwhelming majorities of Americans want Congress to act to prevent huge increases in health care costs and to end the government shutdown,” the letter states. “We urge you to call the U.S. House back to Washington immediately to engage in good-faith bipartisan efforts to address these issues.”

Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-31) stopped by El Proyecto Del Barrio, a community clinic in Azusa, CA, to speak with patients and providers about how Medicaid funding cuts would impact them. More than 300,000 people in CA-31 rely on Medicaid for life-saving healthcare.

Rep. April McClain Delaney (MD-06), introduced the Federal Agricultural Relief Maintained during Shutdowns and Federal Emergencies (FARM SAFE) Act, legislation aimed at safeguarding America's producers during government shutdowns and other times of federal uncertainty.
