New Dem Leadership Endorses Legislation to Stop Musk & Trump’s Attempts to Steal Americans’ Personal Information and Impose a 25% Tax on Hardworking Families

New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement on the New Democrat Coalition Leadership Team’s endorsement of two critical bills: the Taxpayer Data Protection Act and the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act

The Taxpayer Data Protection Act would limit access to the Treasury’s data systems and the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act would clarify that the President cannot impose tariffs under the guise of a national emergency without congressional approval.

“Today, the New Democrat Coalition Leadership Team is taking action to protect Americans’ privacy and their pocketbooks. As Elon Musk, an unelected, self-serving billionaire, and President Trump seek to enrich themselves at the expense of hardworking Americans, New Dem Members are working to stop them in their tracks.

“No American voted for Elon Musk, and certainly no one chose to hand over their personal social security, medical, taxpayer and other confidential information to an unelected billionaire and his minions. Every American should be outraged that Musk now has just gained access to their personal data. Musk now also has the power to block Social Security and health care payments. The American people can’t risk losing the programs they rely on without notice.

“At the same time, Trump is once again threatening to put a 25% tax on hardworking families who are already struggling to get by, all so he can wage a petty trade war with our closest allies.

“The Taxpayer Data Protection Act and the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act would put an end to these catastrophic and chaotic actions by the White House. No matter who is in office, New Dems will always fight for the American people, and we will work tirelessly to pass this legislation through the House.”
