New Dem Chair on Senate Passing Blank Check Continuing Resolution that Emboldens Trump, Musk

Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued a statement following the Senate vote to pass the House Republicans’ hyper-partisan Continuing Resolution:

“Congressional Republicans are surrendering their Constitutional duties to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Rather than working to pass legislation that responsibly funds the government, Republicans are empowering Trump, Musk, and his DOGE bros with a blank check to continue their devastating campaign of chaos through the federal government.

“New Dems were united in rejecting the irresponsible bill House Republicans jammed through earlier this week. Sadly, Senate Republicans today joined the chaos chorus and passed this atrocious bill. They now own the Trump-Musk chaos agenda. Congressional Republicans are ensuring Veterans, seniors, students, farmers and small businesses will all bear the burden of harmful cuts to federal programs just to line the pockets of megabillionaires like Musk.

“New Dems remain clear-eyed and committed to using any leverage possible to prevent Elon Musk, the Trump administration, and Congressional Republicans from taking a chainsaw to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and many other critical programs hardworking American families rely on.”
