New Dem Economic Working Group Chair Houlahan on Trump’s Attempt to Defund Main Street
Today, New Dem Economic Growth & Cost of Living Working Group Chair Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) issued a statement regarding President Trump’s March 14th executive order, which directed relevant agencies to eliminate “to the maximum extent” the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund:
“President Trump’s executive order is a direct attack on Main Street America. The CDFI Fund is a highly effective program that represents the very best of public-private partnerships, providing critical access to capital in the communities that need it most – particularly rural and underserved areas.
“Lawmakers from across the political spectrum strongly support the Fund, because no one in their right mind would attack a program that uplifts local economies and provides a significant return on investment for the American taxpayer.
“This is yet another harmful overreach by the President, who has no authority to shut off the funds Congress already appropriated for the CDFI Fund and the other agencies being targeted. New Dems will do everything we can to push back against this decision, defend Main Street, and lower costs for our families.”
