New Dem Chair Statement on Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Decision to Limit Access to Mifepristone
Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair (NDC) Annie Kuster (NH-02) released a statement on the Fifth Circuit’s Decision in Alliance for Hippocratic v. FDA, which threatens to reimpose onerous restrictions on access to safe and effective medication abortion and undermines the FDA’s process for approving safe and effective medications that patients rely on:
“Doctors — not politicians or activist judges — should be the ones making important and personal healthcare decisions. If the Fifth Circuit’s decision stands, it will significantly roll back access to mifepristone and safe medication abortion. This ruling presents a serious threat to the bodily autonomy of women and undermines reproductive freedom.
“We continue to witness the devastating physical, mental, and economic impacts the end of Roe v. Wade is having on women and their families across our country.
“As extreme politicians and activist judges continue to push harmful myths about reproductive health care, New Dems will continue fighting tooth-and-nail to codify Roe into law and protect a woman’s right to choose for the sake of all women and the strength of our economy."
