New Dem Leadership Endorses Abigail Spanberger for Battleground Leadership Representative
Today, New Democrat Coalition Leadership Members endorsed Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) to serve as the Battleground Leadership Representative. New Dem Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the below statement on the endorsement:
“The leadership team of the New Democrat Coalition is thrilled to endorse our colleague Rep. Abigail Spanberger for Battleground Leadership Representative.
“Our leadership team endorsed New Dem Rep. Susie Lee’s (NV-03) proposal to create a Battleground Leadership Representative as part of the Democratic Leadership team. We are glad that the Democratic Caucus formally adopted this rule change last week to ensure that Members in battleground districts are guaranteed a critical seat at the leadership table.
“Since flipping her seat from Red to Blue in 2018, Abigail has run two successful re-election campaigns in one of the most competitive districts in the country. She understands the opportunities and challenges associated with being a battleground Member, how to effectively deliver for and communicate with our constituents, and the work we need to do to win back the majority in 2024.
“In Congress, Abigail has proven to be a fiercely independent voice who puts her district first. She will be an invaluable addition to the leadership team, and we have no doubt that she will be an effective advocate for the needs of her fellow battleground Members.”
Elected to Congress in 2018, Rep. Abigail Spanberger currently sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Agriculture Committee. She is also the Vice Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
