New Democrat Coalition Announces Complete Leadership Team for 117th Congress

Today, the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) announced its expanded leadership team and the specific roles of the four recently-elected NDC Vice Chairs. Additionally, pursuant to the NDC’s bylaws, Chair-elect Suzan DelBene (WA-01) appointed three Members to serve in leadership positions within the Coalition. These roles and appointments serve to harness the unique expertise each leadership Member brings to the Coalition and enhance the NDC’s execution of its vision in the 117th Congress.

The four NDC Vice Chair-elects will have the following roles: Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) as Vice Chair for Communications, Rep. Sharice Davids (KS-03) as Vice Chair for Member Services, Rep. Ami Bera (CA-07) as Vice Chair for Outreach, and Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) as Vice Chair for Policy. Chair-elect DelBene has also appointed Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) as Whip, and Reps. Stacey Plaskett (VI-AL) and Brad Schneider (IL-10) to serve as At-Large Leadership Members in the coming term.

“The New Democrat Coalition has a unique opportunity to deliver real change in the 117th Congress and I look forward to leading this diverse coalition during this pivotal time. New Dems and its policy ideas are closely aligned to the incoming Biden-Harris administration and we will be a key partner in building the coalitions necessary to address the multiple crises the nation is currently facing,“ said NDC Chair-elect Suzan DelBene (WA-01). “One of the top things I hear from constituents is that they want governance to work again. After years of gridlock and obstructionism, I’m focused on getting to ‘yes’ on the biggest issues before us including additional pandemic relief, better health care for all Americans, getting the middle class back to work with living wages, and investing in new, green infrastructure.”

“It’s an honor to be selected by my colleagues to serve as Vice Chair of the New Democrat Coalition,” said NDC Vice Chair for Outreach Ami Bera (CA-07). “As the largest Democratic ideological Caucus in the House of Representatives, the New Democrat Coalition is uniquely positioned to help guide our country’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and to build back stronger. I look forward to working with the Coalition to continue pushing forward bold policy solutions for the American people.”

“It was an honor to be a part of the New Democrat Coalition during my first term, and I’m looking forward to helping our coalition build on the progress we’ve made as Vice Chair,” said NDC Vice Chair for Member Services Sharice Davids (KS-03). “Our Coalition represents an important voice in our Caucus, and we will play an even greater role in guiding our national agenda in the next Congress. We’re faced with enormous challenges right now, and it will take all of us working together to address these crises and deliver progress for the people of this country.”

“I’m honored to be re-elected by my colleagues to serve as a Vice Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, and I look forward to our continued work in the 117th Congress,” said NDC Vice Chair for Communications Annie Kuster (NH-02). “My home is in the New Democrat Coalition, working across our Caucus and across the aisle to deliver real results for my district. We are uniquely positioned to work with the Biden-Harris Administration and lead with innovative and practical solutions to our greatest challenges. Our Coalition has the vision and the plans to defeat COVID-19, improve access to affordable health care, lower drug prices, create jobs, rebuild our infrastructure, expand broadband internet, and develop the clean energy economy of the future.”

“It’s an honor to serve a second term as a New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair, this time as the Vice Chair for Policy,” said NDC Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52). “With over 90 Members, our coalition will play a pivotal role in helping set the agenda under the incoming Biden Administration. Our focus must remain on passing bills that can earn the support of both chambers and be signed into law by the president. If the legislation doesn't make it to his desk, we aren’t supporting the people who count on us to get through this brutal public health and economic crisis. I’m going to push us to leverage our heft so we can break through Washington’s gridlock and achieve real progress for the people in this country who need their government to work.”

"I'm proud to be elected by my Freshman colleagues to serve on the leadership team of the New Democrat Coalition. Together, this diverse coalition will tackle the immense challenges facing our nation and help build our country back stronger and more equitably than before," said Freshman Leadership Representative Kathy Manning (NC-06).
