New Democrat Coalition Applauds Passage of Innovation Act

Following the passage of H.R. 3309, the New Democrat Coalition’s leaders issued the following statement:

“We commend leaders in both parties who set partisanship aside today to pass legislation to protect small business owners and entrepreneurs from the burdens of illegitimate patent claims while also protecting the rights of legitimate patent holders to enforce their patents,” the statement said. “For too long, ‘patent trolls’ have placed an unmanageable burden on our job creators and innovators, and this bill takes an important first step to addressing the issue. We look forward to working with our colleagues in the Senate as we move the process forward to further strengthen patent protections for our entrepreneurs.”

New Democrat Coalition Vice-Chairs Rep. Rick Larsen, Rep. Jim Himes, Rep. Gerry Connolly, Rep. Allyson Schwartz and New Democrats Rep. Jared Polis, Rep. Suzan DelBene and Rep. Pedro Pierluisi endorsed the above statement.

The New Democrat Coalition is dedicated to maintaining America’s standing as the world’s strongest, most successful nation. Founded in 1997, the New Dems believe firmly in the power of American ingenuity and innovation, and are focused on finding ways to foster and harness this creativity to grow our economy, create new American jobs, and ensure a safer and more secure future for our country.
